Botox & Fillers Q&A

Can Botox and fillers help my skin look smoother and younger?

Yes. Cosmetic injectables are a minimally invasive treatment designed to minimize wrinkles, sagging skin, and fine lines. Though similar, Botox and fillers have differences.

Botox

Botox is a neuromodulator. When injected into your face, it blocks nerve signals from reaching certain muscles, causing them to relax. A series of Botox injections provide a quick and convenient way to reduce forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and bunny lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows).

Botox can also be used to treat temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, a condition that causes chronic jaw pain, headaches, and difficulty chewing. It may also help people with bruxism stop clenching their teeth.

Fillers

Dermal fillers treat skin imperfections, but they work differently than Botox. Fillers contain hyaluronic acid –– a substance that your body naturally produces to keep your skin smooth and soft. As a result, it’s great at plumping up sagging skin and can add volume to areas like your cheeks and lips.

Can anyone get Botox and fillers?

Botox and fillers are safe and present few risks, but they aren’t for everyone. To undergo treatment, you must be 21 or older.

Let your provider know if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. In addition, let your provider know if you have allergies. Though rare, cosmetic injectables can trigger a severe allergic reaction.

What does Botox and filler treatment involve?

Treatment with Botox and fillers usually takes 90 minutes or less.

On the day of your appointment, your Redmond Dentists’ provider washes your face and applies a topical anesthetic to your skin, numbing it. Then, they use a very thin, sharp needle to inject the Botox or filler into specific areas or muscles. The number of injections you get depends on your treatment goals and the severity of the problem you are addressing.

After your appointment, avoid rubbing the injection sites for at least 24 hours. You should also avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for a day or two.

When will I see results from Botox and fillers?

Botox is a cumulative treatment, meaning it takes several days or weeks for noticeable effects. Most people see an improvement in their skin within two weeks, but it might take longer. Scheduling follow-up injections every three or four months can help you maintain your results.

Fillers provide instant results. Your skin looks fuller and younger immediately after the injections.
